|Teri Hatcher Biography
Teri Hatcher was born on December 8, 1964, in Sunnyvale, California. She is the only child of Owen Hatcher, an electrical engineer and Esther Hatcher, a computer scientist. She attended Mango Junior High (now Sunnyvale Middle School) and Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. While at Freemont High, she became captain of the cheerleading squad, known as the Featherettes. Hatcher then studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco while taking a degree course in mathematics and engineering at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
While in college, Hatcher became a professional cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers. During this time she went to Hollywood to lend moral support to a friend during a open casting call. She ended up auditioning also and won her first acting gig as one of the mermaids on Aaron Spelling's Love Boat during its final season. After she was hired for Love Boat, she dropped out of school to pursue acting full-time.
Hatcher went on to play Penny Parker, a ditzy but sweet-hearted struggling actress in MacGyver, and when that show ended, she auditioned for and won the role of smart and savvy Lois in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in 1993. This is the role that launched Hatcher in to stardom.
Hatcher went on to appeared in feature films including Spy Kids (2001), the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Dead in the Water (1991), 2 Days in the Valley (1996), and Heaven's Prisoners (1996). She also had a guest appearance in an episode of Seinfeld, in which she voiced one of the show's memorable lines "Oh, and by the way: they're real, and they're spectacular."
Hatcher took a break from show biz for a while before winning a role on the dark comedy series Desperate Housewives, which debuted in 2004. The show was an instant success and put Hatcher back on the celebrity A-list. Hatcher won both a Golden Globe for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and the SAG Award for Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her performances in the first season of Desperate Housewives.
In addition to acting Hatcher's first book Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life, was released in May 2006. She also launched a clothing line.Hatcher married Marcus Leithold in 1988, but the couple divorced the following year. In 1994, she married actor Jon Tenney. The union produced one child, a daughter, Emerson Rose, in November 1997. She and Tenney divorced in March 2003.
