Naomi Campbell Biography

Naomi Campbell was born in London, England on May 22, 1970. She is of African, Jamaican and Chinese descent. She studied at the London Academy For Performing Arts and graduated from the renowned Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Campbell started on her road to fame when she appeared Bob Marley's music video for his song "Is This Love?" in February 1978.

When Campbell was only 15 years old and still a student at Italia Conti Stage, she was discovered while shopping by the former head of the Synchro models agency. Within a year, Campbell appeared on the cover of Elle magazine for the April 1986 issue. Just two years later, she had added work with French Vogue (as the magazine's first black cover girl) and campaigns for Ralph Lauren and Francois Nars to her resume.

Campbell also worked as a runway model, working with many fashion designers, including Gianni Versace and Valentino. As her career progressed, she received many jobs modeling for high profile advertising campaigns, such as Lee Jeans and Olympus Corporation, which would lead her to America.

Campbell rose in popularity in America and took pride in becoming one of the world's top models. She was also the first black model to appear on the covers of French Vogue, British Vogue, and Time. She also brought much attention to herself when she posed nude for Playboy magazine, and in a series of lesbian-erotic photos with Madonna, in the singer's infamous coffee table book titled Sex.

In addition to modeling, Campbell has also released an album titled, Baby Woman, which sold over one million copies worldwide. In 1995, she teamed up with Toshinobu Kubota, and released the number one hit, "La La La Love Song." She also lent her voice to Quincy Jones' album Q's Juke Joint, and has appeared in music videos for Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Macy Gray, Prince, Usher, Madonna, and George Michael.

In 1996, Campbell released a book, titled Swan. It quickly became a best seller and she released a book of photography soon after titled Naomi. It was later reveled that Campbell has used a ghost writer for Swan, and that Campbell had written almost none of the book.

Campbell has also made a number of films and appeared on several television shows. Her credits include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990), New York Undercover (1995), Miami Rhapsody (1995), Spike Lee's Girl 6 (1996) co-starring Madonna, Invasion of Privacy (1996), Prisoner of Love (1999), and The Call (2005) alongside John Malkovich.
