|Lena Headey Biography
Lena Headey was born on October 3, 1976 in Bermuda, soon after her father, a policeman, was relocated there for training. At age 5, she moved to Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England where she lived until age 17. Headey attended the English Rose School of Acting and graduated in 1994. That same year, Headey caught the eye of a casting agent while she was performing in a stage show.
Headey started her professional career with a part in 1992's television movie Clothes in the Wardrobe. That same year, she made her big screen debut in Waterland, starring Jeremy Irons. In 1993, Headey appeared in her first notable role playing a maid in The Remains of the Day.
In 1994, Headey landed a part of Katherine 'Kitty' Brydon in The Jungle Book. She met her English costar Jason Flemyng on set and the two dated for nine years. She had his first name tattooed on her arm in Thai, though after their break-up she had the tattoo altered into butterflies.
After a number of television guest spots, Headey appeared in the 1997 crime drama Face, in which she plays the girlfriend of Robert Carlyle's character. That same year, she was seen alongside Vanessa Redgrave and Natascha McElhone in Mrs. Dalloway based on a novel by Virginia Woolf. In 1998, Headey won her first lead role in the romantic comedy The Man with Rain in His Shoes, also featuring Penelope Cruz.
In 1999, Headey was seen playing the sister of Liv Tyler in Onegin, which starred Ralph Fiennes. The next year, she appeared in the mystery thriller Gossip with Kate Hudson and Joshua Jackson. In 2001, she starred in another thriller, this time opposite her then boyfriend, Jason Flemyng, in Anazapta.
In 2002, Headey landed a part in Neil LaBute's Possession starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart. She gained much recognition for her performance. After a handful of less memorable films, Headey burst back into the spotlight in 2005, appearing in three mainstream films, the fantasy flick The Brothers Grimm, the thriller The Cave, and the romantic comedy Imagine Me & You.Headey's next projects include playing Queen Gorgo in 300, a film based on a Frank Miller comic, her own TV series titled The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and a lead role in the action film The Shooter with Wesley Snipes.
