|Juliette Lewis Biography
Juliette Lewis was born on June 21, 1973, in Los Angeles, CA, to actor Geoffrey Lewis and graphic designer Glenis Duggan. Growing up the daughter of an actor, Lewis was involved in the Hollywood scene and quickly formed a desire to perform. She began her professional acting career at age 12 when she landed a role in the Showtime miniseries Home Fires in 1987.
After appearing on The Wonder Years (1988) and I Married Dora (1987), she went on to star with Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) and Crooked Hearts (1991) with Jennifer Jason Leigh. In 1990, when she was 16, Lewis starred in the critically acclaimed TV movie Too Young to Die?, based on the true story of Amanda Sue Bradley, a sexually abused runaway who was the first minor to receive the death sentence. Lewis' performance caught the attention of Martin Scorsese, who cast her in the thriller Cape Fear (1991). Her powerful performance alongside Robert De Niro earned her an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Lewis was next seen in Woody Allen's Husbands and Wives in 1992, playing a a confident college girl who goes after older men, like her married teacher. That same year, she starred in That Night, and in 1993, she won the lead in Kalifornia, also starring her boyfriend at the time, Brad Pitt. Also in 1993, she also played a waitress from Queens opposite Gary Oldman in Romeo Is Bleeding, and was seen in the Academy Award nominated film, What's Eating Gilbert Grape with Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 1994, Lewis appeared in one of her best known roles when she starred with Woody Harrelson in Natural Born Killers, directed by Oliver Stone. That same year she teamed up with comedy big shots Steve Martin and Adam Sandler in Mixed Nuts, and in 1995 she was seen in the sci-fi action film Strange Days with Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett. In 1996 she acted in Quentin Tarantino's From Dusk Till Dawn, and as Shirley MacLaine's granddaughter in The Evening Star.
Lewis starred in the independent film Some Girl in 1998, with Michael Rapaport and Giovanni Ribisi, and the thriller The 4th Floor in 1999. In 2000, she appeared opposite Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillippe in The Way of the Gun. After appearing in a handful of lesser known films, Lewis was seen in the thriller, Enough, opposite Jennifer Lopez in 2002. The following year she played Heidi in the Will Farrell hit comedy, Old School. Continuing with comedy the following year, she was seen in Starsky & Hutch starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.
In 2006, she will be seen in Lightfield's Home Videos, The Darwin Awards, and Grilled. In 2007, she can be seen in Catch and Release with Jennifer Garner.
Beside acting, Lewis has formed a band called Juliette and the Licks which has released a few albums. Lewis has also appeared on three tracks by Rock-techno group The Prodigy's 2004 CD Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (Spitfire, Get Up Get Off and Hot Ride). Most of her time is currently spent touring with her band, which is quickly gaining popularity.Lewis married professional skateboarder Stephen Berra in 1999, but has filed for divorce.
