Helena Christensen was born on Christmas day in 1968, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her mother is Peruvian and her father is a Danish typographer. She began modeling at age 9 and when she was 18, she was crowned Miss Denmark in 1986. She went on to represent her country at the Miss Universe pageant that year.

After competing in Miss Universe, Christensen was inspired to pursue her modeling career further and she relocated to Paris, France. After a photo shoot for Elle Magazine, Christensen's career took flight. She soon appeared on the cover of Vogue and began signing advertising campaign contracts with many top designers from around the world.

Christensen has done a considerable amount of runway work in addition to her print modeling. She is widely known for strutting her stuff for Victoria's Secret on the catwalk as well as appearing in the company's television commercials, catalogues and print advertisements.

Christensen has also dipped her toes in the film industry, appearing in a few movies, most notably starring in 1980's Inferno and Prêt-à-Porter in 1994. She also she starred in Chris Isaak's music video for his song "Wicked Game" in 1991. The video was deemed the Sexiest Video of All-Time by MTV.

Christensen finds time with her busy schedule to support charities. She attended the launch of the second Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign in Ireland. The event sells exclusive designer t-shirts to raise millions for Action Breast Cancer and Europa Donna Ireland to help younger women with breast cancer.
