| Gretchen Mol Biography
Gretchen Mol was born on November 8, 1972, in Deep River, Connecticut. She grew up in Connecticut with her brother, a filmmaker, her mother, an artist, and her father, a school principal. Mol graduated from the William Esper Studio and from the prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Mol's acting career started after she was noticed by a talent agent while she was working at a restaurant. She was soon linked with the agent who quickly landed her a Coca-Cola commercial. From there, Mol went on to small television movie roles and guest spots. Her first notable role was in the 1996's The Funeral alongside an all-star cast. In 1997, Mol won a small role playing the girlfriend of Michael Madsen's character, Sonny, in the acclaimed film Donnie Brasco. Also in 1997, she was seen in the drama The Last Time I Committed Suicide with Thomas Jane, Keanu Reeves, Adrien Brody and Claire Forlani. Mol's big break came in 1998 when she played Jo, the girlfriend of Matt Damon's character in the poker film Rounders. After appearing in the film, Mol landed the cover of Vanity Fair magazine and found herself in the media spotlight. That same year, she teamed up with Woody Allen, appearing in his film Celebrity opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. In 1999, Mol worked with Woody Allen again on his film Sweet and Lowdown, which also featured Sean Penn and Uma Thurman. That year she was also seen in the drama Cradle Will Rock and the sci-fi thriller The Thirteenth Floor" In the early 2000s, Mol appeared in a handful of television projects and forgettable films, aside from a small, unaccredited part in the remake Get Carter starring Sylvester Stallone. In 2003, she landed a lead role in Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things alongside Paul Rudd and Rachel Weisz. In 2005, mol won the lead role in the biopic The Notorious Bettie Page, playing the famous pin-up model. In 2007, Mol is set to appear in a number of films including the all-star cast comedy The Ten, a film with ten stories each corresponding to one of the ten commandments, and 3:10 to Yuma, a western starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Mol married filmmaker Tod "Kip" Williams on June 1, 2004. |
