Carrie-Anne Moss Biography

Carrie-Anne Moss was born on August 21, 1967, in Vancouver, Canada. She started acting when she was 11 in the Vancouver children's musical theater. She continued to appear in school productions through high school. She also toured Europe with the school choir during her senior year at Magee Secondary School.

After graduating, Moss worked as a waitress and occasionally picked up some modeling work. Moss soon left Canada and traveled back to Europe at 20 to pursue modeling full-time. In Spain she was cast in a regular role on the television show Dark Justice, which was produced in Barcelona for the first season. The following year, the show moved to Los Angeles, and Moss relocated to the United States. After her run on Dark Justice, Moss studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Pasadena, California.

Moss next landed guest roles on The Hat Squad, Down the Shore, L.A. Law and several Canadian filmed productions, including a featured role on the 1993 action series Matrix. In 1994, Moss was cast as Carrie Spencer, a model considered aged at 26, with a younger sister ripe for the business on Fox's Models Inc. Fox continued to help Moss gain exposure when she was cast in the thriller FX: The Series, in the regular role of Lucinda Scott, a woman in cahoots with a special effects wizard who moonlights as a crime fighter.

Though Moss had little film work on her resume, she was cast in her breakout role in 1999's The Matrix, opposite Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. After extensive martial arts training, she performed her own fight sequences in the futuristic piece and emerged as both a luminous screen presence and a capable action hero. Moss reprised her role of Trinity for the film's two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, both released in 2003.

Between Matrix films, Moss appeared in Christopher Nolan's successful film Memento (2000) starring Guy Pearce, which earned her an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female Actress. That same year she was seen in the sci-fi flick The Red Planet, and the Johnny Depp romance film Chocolat.

After The Matrix series, Moss played an FBI agent tracking a serial killer who murders serial killers in the thriller Suspect Zero in 2004. The following year she was seen in the indie film Chumscrubber with Glenn Close. In 2006, Moss acted alongside Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver in the drama Snow Cake, followed by Mini's First Time with an all-star cast. In 2007, Moss can be seen in the thriller titled Disturbia.

Moss married actor Steven Roy in November 1999. They have two sons together; Owen, born in September 2003, and their second son was born in November 2005, but they have never released his name.
